Zhilikam t'°Var-Vipladayalar t'Narniuh°
Vulcan young people have long had a fascination with the literary works for young people on other worlds. The seven books in The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis of 20th Century C.E. Earth continue to entertain and inspire people across the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. The books are morality tales and contain disguised Christian ideas, with Aslan being the form Jesus takes in Narnia. These books are avidly read and discussed by young Vulcans and other beings. Several of the books were made into films or television programs, but one thing or another kept all seven books from being filmed. The two Battles of Beruna were significantly added to for the films, since these are quickly covered in the books. The theatrical films are loved to this day, whereas the BBC series has flaws in casting and acting, has cheap special effects, including people dressed up as animals, and so is meant only for small children. A shocking twist in the final book is the discovery that all of the Pevensie family, except Susan, had died in a train crash.
C.S. Lewis was a professor of Medieval English and an expert in mythology. He wrote the books while in his 50's. The four Pevensie children were originally named Peter, Ann, Martin and Rose. He changed three of the names before publication (the youngest after his goddaughter Lucy Barfield). Mr. Lewis was a close friend of J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings books. They avidly discussed their books with each other. Both authors used themes and creatures from Greek, Roman, Celtic and Nordic mythology.
Below you will find names, places and terminology you may find associated with the The Chronicles of Narnia books, and movies and television programs based on them. Since the author was English, we have preserved the British spelling of words where appropriate. (Names are listed in pure alphabetical order by title, first name then last name, since names are sorted using the Vulcan standard.)
